The Council of Christian and Jews - Birmingham Branch

The Council of Christians and Jews works with Christians, Jews and members of other faith communities who are approaching inter-faith dialogue. The Council of Christians and Jews was founded in 1942 by Chief Rabbi Joseph H. Hertz and Archbishop William Temple. Since CCJ was founded and, in particular, since the end of the Second World War, Christians have sought ways in which they can reach out to their Jewish brothers and sisters. Today, CCJ works to create constructive dialogue between Jews and Christians on a wide variety of topics, including the Israel-Palestine situation and the global economic crisis. CCJ continues to work tirelessly to combat anti-semitism and intolerance, working with a variety of Christian, Jewish and secular community groups.
In Birmingham we meet roughly once a month, usually at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, on the Bristol Rd. Our topics range from music and art, through theology and history, to issues of current concern. Some evenings are formal lectures, others informal discussion. Anyone from the community wishing to become involved on the committee would be very welcome.
